What is Car Sharing?


Car Sharing is when two or more people travel together in the same car for all or part of their journey.

What is

  • is a free web-based service to help you find your perfect car sharing match.
  • It is supported by Cambridgeshire County Council and is operated by, the largest national car sharing scheme.


How does it work?

  • Every time a new person registers their journey with their details are added to a database.
  • These journeys can be anything from a regular commute to work, to a one off event.
  • As a member you can search this database to find potential matches in your area.


How do you sign up?

  • Go to and click on 'Join'.
  • If your company is registered then click on the company name under Private Group, if not then click on your local authority area.
  • After registering click on the 'Register a journey' button and follow the instructions
  • Once registration is complete you will receive an email from Liftshare.  Please follow the instructions to confirm your registration
  • Log on to with your email address and password and click on the 'Search matches' button to see if there are people in your area you can car share with. When a match is found email or phone the contact to arrange your first meeting.

    Real time road information is continually updated and shows the current situation on the roads. Great for planning their journeys and avoid congestion. You can also view all of Highway England’s Traffic Cameras.
